Two gymnasts from Huntingdon secured a hat-trick of gold medals at a recent European gymnastics competition. 

Sol Scott and Uzair Chowdhury from Huntingdon Gymnastics Club were part of the gold-winning team at the European Championships in Rimini, Italy. 

Sol bagged himself the Junior European Vault title, whilst Uzair Chowdhury took the Parallel Bars Junior European title.

The first medal came as Sol and Uzair were joined by teammates, Zakaine Fawzi, Evan McPhillips and Gabriel Langton.

They achieved a combined score of 240.258 to take gold and were crowned European Junior Team Champions.

The team produced a masterclass across all apparatus, showing great composure, unity, and above all gymnastics talent.

Commenting on his win, Uzair said: "It was amazing. The atmosphere was crazy. The team support was great, and they all helped me get around the apparatus.”

Uzair, who achieved score of 14.066 on the parallel bars and secured the title of European Champion, added: “I’m so happy because I’ve been working so hard to get this and it just feels surreal.

"I’m very proud of myself, it’s great. It’s my first major competition, it’s been such a great experience so I’m super happy.”

Sol, who performed two high-difficulty passes to score 14.466 and secure the European Junior Vault title said the European Championships was his first major competition. 

"As I was last up, I had to block everything out, the music the crowd and really focus on my routine. It was so nerve-wracking waiting for the final score to see where we placed, but I’m just so pleased.

“It felt amazing to be out there. I was really nervous waiting for my routine to start, but once I began my skills my nerves calmed.”

During the competition, Sol also narrowly missed the medal podium placing 4th in the floor final, as well as placing 9th in the High Bar final and 11th in the All-Around competition with a score of 77.297.
