A Huntingdonshire man will take on the 60km Jurassic Coast Challenge in Dorset to raise money for the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children.

Grafham-based Andrew Duckworth's trek will take place on May 18, where he will be joined by his friend James who will also be helping to raise money for the foundation.

The whole walk has a 1,700m of elevation making it a challenging route to complete.

Andrew and James have been training regularly since January 2024, starting with an initial 15km weekly walk with the distance increasing over time. To prepare for the challenge, they completed a 45km walk three weeks before the event.

This is not the first challenge Andrew has accomplished, in May 2022 he took on an ultra-event which was the Isle of Wight challenge, this was a continuous walk where he completed a total of 106km in 24 hours and raised over £3000 for East Anglia Children’s Hospice.

Andrew chose to take on the Jurassic Coast Challenge for the Foundation and fundraise as part of the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children’s ‘100 Your Way’ campaign.

In 2024 the Bright Horizons Foundation will open its 100th Bright Space in the UK to support vulnerable children. To celebrate this milestone, the Foundation has launched its 100 Your Way campaign, with a goal of raising £100,000.

Emily Harris, of Bright Horizons Foundation for Children, said: “Firstly, I would like to wish Andrew and James good luck with their extraordinary challenge, we are so grateful for their support and I’m sure he will inspire others to take on similar challenges.

“The foundation relies on amazing individuals like Andrew and James who give their time to raising money to support vulnerable children.”
