An inquest has opened into the death of a St Ivo Academy teacher.

Adrian Berrisford, 52, was described as a “popular sixth form teacher” who taught law and politics.

He died in St Ives on December 18, 2023.

Elizabeth Gray, an area coroner for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, opened his inquest today (Tuesday).

At the brief hearing held at Lawrence Court, Huntingdon, she adjourned Mr Berrisford’s inquest "for a date to be advised”.

News of Mr Berrisford’s death was shared with the St Ivo Academy community in the final days of last term.

In his tribute, Tony Meneaugh, the school’s principal, said: “Everyone at St Ivo Academy and Astrea Academy Trust is deeply saddened by the tragic death of our friend and colleague, Adrian Berrisford.

“Adrian taught politics and law at St Ivo for the last two and a half years, and will be remembered for his passion for his subjects and as a popular sixth form teacher.

“Our thoughts and condolences are with Adrian’s friends and family.”

Information about specialist support services for students was made available throughout the Christmas break.
