St Neots residents can now get their hands on a new directory featuring many of the area's local clubs and activities.

Chair of St Neots Community Support, Catherine Goodman, is hoping the printed directory will go some way to reaching many of those who are isolated and feel lonely.

“SNCS was set up in response to the covid emergency with the sole purpose of ensuring that no one fell through the gap," explained Cathrine.

Through our work we’ve seen that there are many people who are alone, without family support, possibly new to the area, and would like to get more socially connected.”

Huntingdonshire District Council wanted to tackle health inequalities in the area and made funding available to the group.

Feedback from the community identified issues such as social isolation and loneliness and people said they were unaware about what was already on offer in the town.

“The directory should help address these issues,” said Catherine, “not only will it reach places that the online version doesn’t, but it should also help make people aware of the online version as well.”

Clair Slade, vice;chair, added: “Once people become aware of what is going on in the town, we hope that it will aid in improving people’s mental health, lead to reduced depression, increased confidence and possibly lead to more physical activity which will also have greater positive health impacts.”

The launch took place on Saturday, September 9 at St Neots Library where copies will be available.

“We realise that printing anything these days means that it goes out of date the minute it’s done," said Clair, "and despite our best efforts we know that we won’t have captured every single group, so, for anyone interested in appearing in the next edition in early 2024, please email: info@stneots.directory”
