Friedrich Schiller’s Mary Stuart opens at the Cambridge Arts Theatre on April 23.

This new adaptation, created by Robert Icke, tells the story of two queens. one in power, one in prison and the execution that rewrites history.

Following a critically acclaimed, sold-out season at the Almeida Theatre and direct from the Duke of York’s Theatre in the West End, Robert Icke’s new adaptation of Mary Stuart comes to Cambridge as part of a limited UK tour.

★Juliet Stevenson and Lia Williams are able to take on the roles of Elizabeth I and Mary Queen of Scots and the decision about who will play which queen is decided before the performance.

Schiller’s political tragedy takes us behind the scenes of some of British history’s most crucial days.

Juliet Stevenson is best known for her roles in Truly Madly Deeply and Private Lives. Lia Williams’ most recent credits include Kiri, alongside Sarah Lancashire and Steven Mackintosh. In 2016 Williams’ played Wallis, Duchess of Windsor, in the Netflix series The Crown.
