The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) is set to perform the first orchestral concert of the 2017/18 Cambridge Classical Concert Series.

On October 11, the prestigious RPO will open the season at the Cambridge Corn Exchange and there is an opportunity to meet some of the performers before the event.

Daniel Kharitonov is a young soloist who will take on Beethoven’s sublime Piano Concerto No. 4, conducted by Christoph Altstaedt.

The concert opens with Mendelssohn’s magical A Midsummer Night’s Dream Oveture and ends with Dvoák’s emotional seventh symphony.

“This is a programme to capture the imagination, as Mendelssohn transports you to Shakespeare’s mythical, magical land,” said RPO managing director James Williams.

“Beethoven’s concerto draws you in with its delicate opening, building to its climactic finish leading to Dvoák’s emotional Seventh Symphony, in which audiences can feel the nostalgia and love Dvoák felt for his Czech homeland.”

Ahead of the 7.30pm concert, audiences will have the opportunity to meet the musicians in the corn exchange foyer, from 6.45pm til 7.15pm.

Other highlights of the new season include the return of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, Jay Richardson, composer in residence.

Tickets are priced from £32-£42, students and under-16s are £12.50, available from: 01223 357851.
