How to Catch a Star – based on the bestselling children’s picture book by Oliver Jeffers – will be at the Burgess Hall, St Ives, on Sunday.

It tells of a boy who loved the stars so much he decided to catch one of his own. Every night he watches stars from his bedroom window and imagines being their friend and playing hide-and-seek together.

He soon sets about devising a plan to make his seemingly impossible dream come true.

The audience can follow him on his incredible journey across land, sea and sky in his search for a very special starry friend.

His outlandish ideas include climbing to the top of the tallest tree he can find and soaring into the sky in a rocket. The only problem is that it is made of paper and can barely leave the ground.

When he is almost on the verge of giving up on his mission, he learns that sometimes things aren’t where – or what – we expect them to be.

Jeffers, originally from Australia but now living in Brooklyn, has received great critical acclaim since this 2004 debut, winning the Nestle Smarties Book Prize Gold Medal and the Blue Peter Book Award for his 2005 novel Lost and Found.

The show, from Blunderbus Theatre Company, will give plenty of opportunities for children to join in and clap along.

The company plays to 200,000 children each year, touring theatres, arts centres, schools and festivals across the UK and internationally.

Expect humour, music, and captivating storytelling in this heart-warming tale of reaching for the stars and finding friendship from one of the most celebrated children’s author of his generation.

INFORMATION: There will be shows on Sunday at 11am and 2pm. Tickets are £7 or £25 for a family of four from the Burgess Hall on 01480 388500 or www.burgesshall.net.
