Julian Lloyd Webber wows audiences at Cambridge Corn Exchange

WORLD famous cellist Julian Lloyd Webber gave his first Cambridge performance since being named Cambridge Corn Exchange’s Artist-in-Residence with a sell-out recital at the Corn Exchange on Saturday, January 21.

WORLD famous cellist Julian Lloyd Webber gave his first Cambridge performance since being named Cambridge Corn Exchange’s Artist-in-Residence with a sell-out recital at the Corn Exchange on Saturday, January 21.

Before the recital, audience members were treated to an interview in which Mr. Lloyd Webber explained how delighted he was to be resident musician at the venue, how he would be working closely with school children throughout the county during his residency, and how excited he was at the artistic opportunities the residency would offer.

The capacity audience rapturously received the recital –which included works by Bach, Bridge, Britten, Fauré, William Lloyd Webber, Delius and Rachmaninov.

The recital comes on the back of the first two concerts in the Corn Exchange’s 2011-12 Orchestral Series, both of which were completely sold out.

“We are especially pleased to be working closely with our partners Cambridgeshire Music to ensure that a wide range of music students from the City and beyond will directly benefit from his residency.

“The sell-out success of this recital, and of every concert so far in this year’s orchestral season, clearly demonstrate a huge public appetite for this strand of our programming, in this, the venue’s 25th anniversary year.”

The Classical Concert season continues on Saturday, February 18 with the Russian State Philharmonic Orchestra, and continues on Sunday, March 11 with a concert by the English Chamber Orchestra. J

ulian Lloyd Webber’s next appearance at the Corn Exchange will be on Tuesday April, 17 when he performs with the European Union Chamber Orchestra in a programme which includes Handel’s Water Music, Delius’ Aquerelles, Mozart’s Symphony No. 29 and Haydn’s virtuosic Cello Concerto No. 1 in C Major.
