Forties fun to be had at Ramsey event

It’s almost time for guests to don wartime attire and enjoy a weekend of forties-inspired fun.
There will be musical entertainment from authentic period performers, classic vehicle displays, a flypast from Lancaster bombers, a fairground, big band dance, and much more.
Held at The Camp, Wood Lane, Ramsey 1940s Weekend includes attractions such as Home Front exhibits in the drill hall, a 1940s garden in full bloom, plus the original Jones’ van from Dad’s Army.
Dance exhibitions and demonstrations will be given in the big top circus tent by the Cambs and Beds Lindy Experience, alongside other entertainment and afternoon dances. There will also be a variety of stalls to browse.
A Caledonian pipe band will perform on Saturday, plus there will be music from 1940s singer Lola Lamour. Paul Casper will pay tribute to legendary ukulele-playing singer-songwriter George Formby, while Adam Hoffman will treat audiences to the sounds of the era. The DJ and compère for the event will be Pete Baker from Decades Music.
On Saturday evening guests will take to the floor for the big band dance with music from Sticky Wicket and His String Orchestra. Attendees usually dress to impress in glamorous 1940s costumes, civilian clothing, Home Front or Allied uniforms.
A drumhead service will be held on Sunday at 11am with music from The Stamford Brass Band, who will play again later in the day.
In addition, The RAF Falcons Parachute Display Team will be dropping in during the afternoon. There will also be a flypast from the last two Lancaster bombers in the world which are still airworthy.
To close the event, a poignant sunset ceremony will take place at 4.30pm where guests can pause to remember all those who have lost their lives in world conflicts.
