A heart-warming show about a loveable young bear who wakes up one morning in need of a hug is set to delight children and adults alike.

A production of Hugless Douglas – adapted from the popular book by David Melling – will be performed twice at the Burgess Hall, St Ives, on August 16.

Douglas tries to find the right hug to no avail – there are just too many to choose from. It is not until he shares a snuggle with his mum that he realises that a cuddle from her is the only hug that will do.

Packed full of family fun, Blunderbus Theatre Company will be showcasing their production of the show live on stage. Adapted and directed by Bill Davies, with music and lyrics by Frank Goodhind, it features music, puppetry and high-energy storytelling.

Melling is a celebrated author and illustrator, who began his career working in animation studios. He became a freelance illustrator in 1986, drawing for magazines and advertising agencies, before illustrating his first children’s book in 1993.

He first wrote and illustrated his own picture book The Kiss That Missed in 2002, leading to him being shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal. To date he has illustrated over 60 books, writing and illustrating around 15 of them.

The other books in the Hugless Douglas series are Don’t Worry Hugless Douglas, Hugless Douglas and the Big Sleep, and We Love You Hugless Douglas.

Families can join Douglas in a show full of laughter, sing-along songs and plenty of opportunities to join in.

The Hunts Post has a pair of tickets to the show to give away.
