SHARP-SHOOTER: David Calvert will represent England at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

AN RAF Pilot from Wyton has been selected to represent Northern Ireland at the Commonwealth Games – for the ninth consecutive time.

Flight Lieutenant David Calvert, a flying instructor at the Cambridge University Air Squadron at RAF Wyton, will take part in the Full Bore shooting in Delhi in October.

The 59-year-old, who is also a member at the St Ives and District Shooting Club at the Ivo Outdoor Centre, will be looking to add to a record that already includes four gold and three bronze medals for Northern Ireland.

Calvert also won the Queen’s Prize at Bisley in July which he said he ranked alongside his Commonwealth medals.

He added: “The ‘Queen’s Prize’, with over 1000 entrants from home and abroad, ranks for many alongside a Commonwealth Games Gold medal in terms of achievement. Having been placed second in the event on three occasions, it was especially satisfying to take the top spot during my final year in the Royal Air Force.”

Earlier this year Calvert returned with gold, silver and bronze medals in pairs and individual events from the Commonwealth Federation Shooting Championships held in New Delhi.
