Marsh hit 64 after Godmanchester had restricted Nassington to 122 all out with Steve Marsh taking three wickets for 38 runs.

Alex Marsh began the reply with the Goddy captain Nick Willmer and the two comfortably put on 48 for the first wicket before Willmer dollied a catch to point and was out for 14.

Chip Wood lasted only six balls before edging a catch to wicketkeeper Conor Craig but Marsh went on in company with Paul Jefferson (28) to complete a half century and a 72-run unbroken third wicket partnership to steer his side to victory with more than 17 overs to spare.

Marsh finished on 64 not out, a knock that included 22 in boundaries, while Jefferson’s contribution came at the rate of a run a ball.

Only Richard Morris looked like troubling the home side as he claimed both wickets to fall.

Huntingdon & District began their Division One season with a straight forward with at home to Burghley Park.

Nomi Khan had a good knock of 53 as the home side reached 202 with the visitors all out for 144.

Eaton Socon II suffered a 10-wicket defeat against Ufford Park. Eaton only managed 118 for nine with Bob Nicklin top scoring with 26. Ufford Park knocked the runs off easily in just 20.4 overs without losing a wicket.

Edward Manchett top scored for Ramsey II as they fell short at Ickwell only reaching 161 before they were all out while chasing 233 for six.

Houghton & Wyton had a good start their Division Two season setting AK XI a whopping 260 for eight with Mike Hudson (47) and Gregg Andrell (45) both having great spells with the bat.

Then it was the bowlers’ turn to shine with Peter Waughman picking up four wickets for the loss of just 18 runs and Simon Wales getting three for four. AK were all out for 136.

Sawtry are still waiting for a win in Division Two after losing at Peterborough Town III on Saturday.

The captain Ian Fowler told The Hunts Post: “I won the toss and bowled first, doing well to restrict their batsmen, with them not bringing up their 100 until the 37th over.

“There was some good economical bowling from Brian Chapman and three wickets from Ian Bonsall but they motored to 151 off 45 overs.

“The run chase was just that bit harder with our side missing players because of university, football and weekends away for the bank holiday.

“As it was, we really didn’t get going until Adam Clarke and Ian Bonsall came together – but in truth we lost wickets at the wrong time throughout the innings, eventually falling 35 runs short.

“It was not a great start to our season but players will return soon and hopefully we are in good stead for a strong performance this season.”

Waresley II reached Alconbury’s target of 128 for nine wickets with Laurence Frederick top scoring with 22. For Alconbury, Gary Cole had a good knock of 39 and Richard King took four wickets for 24 runs. Neil Suckling also bowled three for 31.
