Huntingdonshire looks set to be blanketed by snow on Sunday as the Met Office issued an amber weather warning.

The forecaster said 10cm of snow was expected across a wide area, with up to 20cm possible in some parts in the north of Cambridgeshire.

An amber warning has been issued that covers from 4am to 6pm on Sunday, with residents told to expect “road, rail and air travel delays” as well as “stranding of vehicles and public transport cancellations”.

In a statement, a Met Office spokesman said: “A spell of snow is expected over a central swathe of the UK on Sunday. This snow starts to develop during the early hours of Sunday with the heaviest and most persistent snow then likely during Sunday morning. 10 cm looks likely quite widely within this warning area, with 15-20 cm in places.”

Where wintery showers occur, the Met Office has urged residents to be aware of ice on the roads. Temperatures are expected to dip as low as -2 degrees overnight in rural areas, though strong winds will make it feel colder.
