Crowds were transported back in time as Ramsey played host to its popular 1940s weekend.

More than 8,000 visitors were treated to a display of vintage treats from cars to dancing and clothes to hairstyles on Saturday and Sunday.

Throughout the weekend, held at the camp, there were hundreds of re-enactors sharing their stories and exhibiting historic pieces of memorabilia.

Ramsey 1940s committee vice chairman, Jayne Mann, said: “It is a lovely and beautiful sight to see so many people walking around and enjoying themselves and looking at the stalls and the re-enactments on both days.”

Visitors were treated to a re-enactment of a battle during the Second World War, with actors taking on the roles of allied forces and German soldiers.

“We were lucky to get a Spitfire there on the Sunday, it was something we didn’t know if we were going to be able to have but it came last minute, and that finished the weekend off nicely,” Jayne added.

Along with the re-enactment, visitors also had the chance to jive, hop and swing along to music from the 1940s, with the sounds of Memphis Belle ringing out of the big top.

The event was also an opportunity for the organisers to help raise funds for the restoration of the drill hall at the camp.
