A key road through Godmanchester will be closed to through traffic tonight (Wednesday, January 17) while engineers from Anglian Water repair a damaged water main.

Work is scheduled to start on Cambridge Road at 7pm and the road will be shut between the Earning Street and Tudor Road junctions, opposite the White Hart pub.

An Anglian Water spokesman said: “Our engineers will be working to repair a burst water main on Cambridge Road in Godmanchester tonight (Wednesday).

“To allow our team to work safely a road closure will be in place between the junctions of Earning Street and Tudor Road while the work is completed and Cambridge Road will reopen once the road surface has been repaired.”

The spokesman said: “We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused and would like to thank local residents, businesses and road users for their patience while this work is completed.”

Cambridge Road is the main road through the town and diversions along the A1198, London Road, London Street, Old Court Hall and the Causeway will be in place.

The road closure has been brought in by Cambridgeshire County Council for safety reasons while the work takes place. The order is valid for up to 21 days, although the county expects the work to be finished by January 22 at the latest.

Access to neighbouring properties will be maintained.
