It’s not often you will hear the owner of a hairdressing salon say: “It’s only hair.”

But that’s what Allison Loveday of Lovely Days in Eynesbury, St Neots said after going under the clippers today (Wednesday) in aid of the Neuro Foundation.

The 49-year-old mum-of-two was sponsored to lose her locks after being inspired to raise funds for the charity by Emilio Saavedra and his family.

The six year old has neurofibromatosis, a rare condition which can lead to serious health problems without warning.

“It’s only hair, it will grow back,” Mrs Loveday told The Hunts Post.

She was motivated to fundraise for the foundation, a small charity supporting those affected by neurofibromatosis, after meeting Emilio and his parents, Mel and Jose, of Eaton Socon, and learning more about his condition.

“He’s such an adorable little boy and they’re an adorable family - it really got to me,” she said.

“I did love my hair and I thought if I’m going to do something it needs to be a little bit off the wall for me.

“I was told ‘Don’t be daft’ but my answer was ‘It’s hair and it grows.’ It wasn’t a big decision for me to make.”

Salon manager Laura Swales was given the job of shaving the boss’ head, watched by a large crowd of family and friends, including Emilio.

“It was very emotional,” said Mrs Loveday. “I think Emilio wants to be a hairdresser now. He told me at the end that I looked like his daddy.”

Mel said the family thanked her from the bottom of their hearts for her fundraising efforts, which so far have exceeded £1,200.

Mrs Loveday is also helping the Saavedras with their second Butterfly Kisses charity ball in aid of the foundation, due to be held at the Priory Centre, St Neots, on Saturday, May 9, 2015.
