A prolific shoplifter has been banned from entering shops in Huntingdon town centre.

Christian Jordan, 41, of Rowan Close, Huntingdon, was made subject of the criminal anti-social behaviour order (Crasbo) which bans him from all the stores in the town – as well as the Tesco supermarkets in Towerfields and Stukeley Meadows.

Jordan, who has 30 shoplifting convictions, was caught shoplifting in Boots on January 21 and in Tesco three days later. In the latter incident he went on to assault two security staff who tried to stop him.

He admitted the thefts and three counts of common assault at Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court on February 27.

The case was a joint investigation between police and Huntingdon Business Against Crime.

Pc Emma Tavener said: “Jordan is a prolific shoplifter who has been offending for more than 10 years.

“This kind of offending is not a victimless crime as businesses have to invest in extra security and those costs are inevitably passed on to shoppers.

“Shop staff also had to deal with his intimidating behaviour and can now go to work without having that worry.

“This Crasbo gives us an extra tool in dealing with Jordan and hopefully give him some structure to start prevent his offending.”

Jordan was also given a four-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months. Ordered to pay £10 compensation and £80 victim surcharge.

The order will run until August next year.

This month Cambridgeshire police is targeting shoplifting as part of its award-winning Get Closer campaign.
