A rescue mission has been launched in Huntingdon this afternoon after a boy was spotted in the river.

Emergency services are searching for a teenage boy who was spotted in the River Great Ouse, close to the bridge between Huntingdon and Godmanchester.

About eight police cars, ambulances, as well as three fire engines - two from Huntingdon and one from Ramsey - were called to The Hollow and Church Lane, Hartford, at 3.43pm. A police helicopter is also on the scene.

Witnesses told The Hunts Post that a boy and his friends had jumped in the water before he got into difficulty.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire police said: “We had reports of a teenage boy in the water at the marina at Riverside Park at 3.40pm. It is not thought that he is out of the river and we are searching for him.”

Water search specialist Spartan Rescue is also involved in the search.
