A small flock of sheep has an extra member after the birth of a rare breed believed to number fewer than 700 worldwide.

The Cameroon lamb was one of a set of twins born on Monday, August 11.

Christened Ben and Jerry by owner Elaine Edwards and daughter Sam, unfortunately only Ben survived.

“It’s often the way with twins,” said Mrs Edwards, of Elm Drive, Offord Cluny. “The mother concentrated on the healthier one.”

Originating in West Africa, the breed is known for its goat-like appearance and short hair.

“You don’t have to shear them, their fur just peels off, which is why we got them. They’re low maintenance,” Mrs Edwards added.

The Edwards bought two Cameroon sheep to help keep the stinging nettles down in the field where they also have two horses and two ponies.

Ben joins his mother, Ruby, father Rambo and sister Lulu, another called Les after Mrs Edwards’ father, as well as a Soay sheep called Larry.
