Teenage Cancer Trust, Marie Curie Cancer Care and Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund were among the charities to benefit from the ‘enterprise day’ on Thursday (July 17).

Students and staff were all involved as the school’s tutor groups produced business and marketing plans as well as a financial report for their fundraising idea.

A frenzied 90 minutes of fundraising activities then took place across the school site as the plans, which ranged from selling candy floss and arranging sports competitions to soaking teachers in the stocks and a mini doughnut eating contest, swung into action.

It is expected that the fundraising will top last year’s total of £2,300 with the money going to the chosen charities as well as a local charity and an in-school project, which will be chosen by the students.

Headteacher Wayne Birks said: “This was a fantastic project with the whole school, students and staff, working together towards a common goal. Holding such an event requires a huge amount of hard work and commitment from everyone. I am delighted that it has been such a success.”
