The incident took place at about 12.50pm on Sunday (August 20), in Goshawk Close, Hartford, with a Vauxhall Insignia careering into a fence before hitting a garden shed.

The vehicle came to a stop just metres from a house.

A tweet from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire (BCH) Road Policing Unit revealed that a passenger in the car managed to steer the vehicle off the road and away from danger.

The tweet said: “We are treating this as a medical episode as cause of collision. No serious injuries, the passenger managed to steer vehicle out of danger.” A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: “An ambulance crew and a response car from Magpas were dispatched to a report of one patient who was trapped.”

The patient suffered slight injuries and was taken to Hinchingbrooke Hospital, in Huntingdon, for further treatment, the spokesman added.
