A woman who was found dead at Poppyfields care home in Eynesbury has been named by police.

Jean Constant, 86, of Chapman Way, Eynesbury, was discovered following reports of concern for her and a man, believed to be her husband, at the home, just after 5pm on Monday (August 22).

A post mortem, was carried out by Dr Nat Cary at Peterborough City Hospital, failed to find a definitive cause of death and further tests and examinations will now be carried out.

An 87-year-old man from Eynesbury has been arrested on suspicion of murder and since been released on conditional bail until October 4.

The care home is managed by the Hanover Housing Association, but day-to-day care for the 34-bed facility is provided by Housing & Care 21.

A spokesman for Hanover told The Hunts Post that the news had been “deeply shocking” and staff were supporting police with the investigation.

In a statement, the company said: “Obviously the incident yesterday is deeply shocking. We don’t know all the circumstances and are working with the authorities while they carry out their investigations. Our sympathies are very much with the family and friends of those involved.”
