A dog owner has been fined after her pets were involved in an attack on another dog in Ramsey.

Joanne O’Hare, of Field Road, Ramsey, appeared at Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, February 13.

The 43-year-old had been charged with two counts of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control in a public place, after her dogs, a Staffordshire bull terrier called Star and a German Shepherd called Ruby, attacked another dog near The Rivermill apartments on Saturday, November 16.

O’Hare initially denied the charges, but changed her plea to guilty. She was fined £100 and ordered to pay costs of £150, a £20 victim surcharge and compensation to the victims of £141.38. She was also told she must fit a muzzle to her dogs when outside her home and keep them on a lead.

The dog that was attacked, Billy, belongs to Karen Leete, whose daughter Amy was walking him when the attack took place.

Welcoming the sentence, she said: “As a family it had a big impact on us. I would hate for it to happen to anyone else.

“Billy had several hours of surgery to torn muscles on his leg, and Amy was very traumatised.”
