The Poundstretcher, which has replaced the Co-operative, in Stocking Fen Road, saw more than 60 people queuing to get into the shop for the grand opening.

The store has created 25 new jobs, and is set to create more once the new staff have settled in.

Ramsey mayor, Councillor Doug McIlwain cut the ribbon, and handed out exclusive vouchers to the first 100 customers.

Cllr McIlwain said: “This is a really exciting movement for Ramsey. As mayor I always welcome anything like this.

“The opening of Poundstretcher will hopefully really benefit the community as it is always great to have new shops opening and to get as many people out and about in Ramsey.

“After what feels like a year of hard work, this is a huge store and is a step in the right direction. I am certainly not finished with Ramsey yet, and hope to get more positive things like this to happen.”
