A man was seriously injured after his car crashed into a tree near Winwick last night (March 15).

Cambridgeshire police, the Magpas air ambulance, East of England Ambulance Service and Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service were all called to Old Weston Road, at about 8.50pm.

Doctor Adriana Cordier and paramedic Dan Read from Magpas were called to treat the man, believed to be in his 20s, and the three other passengers who had been involved in the crash.

A fire crew from Sawtry and a crew from Standground attended the scene and used specialist cutting equipment to release one man from the car.

Once cut out of the car, the Magpas team assessed the man who had suffered a broken leg. They gave him pain relief and sedated him at the scene.

The Magpas team then escorted the man to Peterborough City Hospital via air ambulance where he arrived in a stable condition.

The three other people in the car were all discharged from the scene.

Cambridgeshire police closed the B660 on the Gidding side and on the road’s junction with Church Lane.

The vehicle was removed from a ditch by 10.42pm and the road was re-opened
