CHILDREN from an Eynesbury primary school met one of the nation’s best-loved television personalities.

Gloria Hunniford, star of BBC 1 Doorstep Crime 999 series – and a former presenter of the holiday show Wish You Were Here – visited St Mary’s School complete with film crew.

The visit at the school in Wintringham Road took place in May, but the results were broadcast on Friday.

Ms Hunniford spent the day filming Year 5 pupils, who have been collaborating with St Neots police as ‘Net Detectives’ throughout the year.

The youngsters questioned police on real crime issues, focusing on distraction crime and designed their own posters to alert residents of various dangers.

At the end of the school day pupil Louis Childs took Ms Hunniford home for tea to meet his grandma, whom he presented with a poster.

St Mary’s chairman of governors Ann Williams said: “It was such an exciting day, not only working as real detectives, but to see first-hand how a television programme is made.

“The whole school was excited to see the finished programme when it came to our screens.”
