Huntingdonshire District Council is running the month-long fiesta of cycling events in June.

St Neots Cycling Club will host rides every Sunday in June, starting at 8.30am in the Market Square, while Peterborough Vintage Cycling Club’s annual rally, featuring bikes manufactured before 1930, takes place on June 1. The 12-mile rally starts at Ramsey Rural Museum at 11am.

For children, there is a Two Wheels on Wednesdays challenge aimed at getting them cycling to school.

A day dedicated to cycling takes place at Hinchingbrooke Country Park on Sunday, June 15, and will be one of the festival’s flagship events. Running from 11am until 4pm, it will feature everything from bike maintenance, police marking to cycling training and bike displays.

The month culminates in The Hunts Post’s charity bike ride Two Wheels for Woodlands, which takes place on Sunday, June 29. The ride, with a range of distances from family routes to a 100-mile challenge, is to raise money for the Woodlands Cancer Centre to help with its £800,000 target to build a much-needed extension.

Heidi Field, environmental education and promotions officer at HDC, said: “There are going to be cycling displays from the vintage bike club, a bouncy castle, smoothie maker and lots of other displays. There is also cycling training for everyone, so if you’ve not been on a bike for a while and lost your confidence, then there will be sessions available to build confidence on a bike.”

There are also weekly pedal sessions for disabled people, St Neots Sustrans Leisure Cycling Group’s guided bike rides, and off-road sessions run by St Ives Cycling Club.
