St Ives councillor raises Union Jack to mark the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s rule

SIXTY years ago today (February 6) King George VI died and his daughter Elizabeth became queen aged 25.

Councillor John Davies paid his tribute to Queen Elizabeth II by raising the Union Jack above St Ives to mark accession day.

The district and town councillor said: “My wife and I are very patriotic and very monarchistic so we felt we should mark the day. Although I haven’t met the Queen, I have met Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward.

“I only cleared the snow from my front door to my flagpole this morning so I could raise the union flag this morning to celebrate the 60 years since the Queen acceded the throne.”
