RAMSEY’S main street The Great Whyte has been closed after part of the road surface collapsed.
The road, between High Street and Newtown Road, has been shut off while emergency investigations are carried out on a section of culvert which runs under the road.
A county council spokesman said: “Cambridgeshire County Council Highway Engineers are investigating the cause of a depression in the road which has appeared suddenly.
“The road will be re-opened as soon as possible, depending on the results of the investigations.”
Diversions have been put in place.

The bodge in the culvert roof is exactly where they are digging and was discovered back in 2005. See the pictures at http:sisman.netculverts.htm

Maybe they will now stop the overweight contintental lorrys coming through the town. It is well known the culvert brickwork is in a poor condition and has been for years, indeed there was a hole in its roof near here, bodged up by CCCs contractors using an old roadsign. Now we'll have to wait months for repairs to be carried out.
