Engineers were rushed to the town’s main road on Tuesday night after the road suddenly collapsed.

After investigating the culverts running under the road, engineers found the sub-structure of the road had settled and compacted, causing the depression in the road surface.

The substructure was rebuilt and the road re-laid by Friday morning, a Cambridgeshire County Council spokesman said.

  • So nothing to do with the brickwork failing? Just patch the surface and retire immediately ... sounds like CCC's attitude to road maintenance. Normally they top dress over the potholes!
