A COUPLE who travelled the world together as they both worked for the RAF have celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary.

David, 81, and Anne Richardson, 82, who live in Bury, near Ramsey, met at RAF Bishopscourt in Northern Ireland in July 1952 when Mr Richardson was called up for National Service.

They married just a few months later on September 20 and both embarked on long careers in the air force, with Mr Richardson becoming a photographer and serving 36 years in total while Mrs Richardson was a teacher on RAF bases.

Mr Richardson said the key to their successful marriage was “always being together and travelling together”, as it meant they could share a lifetime together.

Their anniversary was marked with a card from The Queen.

However as the pair were celebrating their 60th in Normandy with their daughter Tansy Forster, the monarch’s good wishes had to be transported by a slightly unusual route.

Mrs Forster and her brother Tony Richardson arranged for the card to be sent to Houeseville, France, where it was hand-delivered by the town’s mayor.

“It was a lovely surprise, unknown to us,” Mr Richardson said.
