Racially motivated attack leaves a woman, 41, in hospital

A WOMAN has been left with serious assault injuries following a racially-motivated attack in Huntingdon on New Year’s Day.

The woman, aged 41, and a 37-year-old man were racially abused by two men as they made their way home along St Peter’s Road before 6am following a night out.

Neighbours discovered the couple in the middle of the road after being knocked down by the two men and beaten. Police are now trying to track down the offenders, who ran off towards Huntingdon Leisure Centre.

The East of England Ambulance Service confirmed they took a woman with assault injuries to Hinchingbrooke Hospital for treatment at 6.05am.

It is believed the woman suffered a deep cut to her hand and may have had to be transferred to Addenbrooke’s Hospital for specialist treatment.

One of the offenders was described as 25 to 30, white, 5’5’’, with cropped hair. He was wearing a white, round-necked T-shirt and chain necklace.

The other was described as white, in his early 20s, 5’11’’, cleanly shaven with short, curly mousey hair. He was wearing a leather jacket over a white top.

Detective Constable Rachel Brown, investigating, said: “This was a very unpleasant incident where the victims appear to have been racially abused before being assaulted.

“I would urge anyone with any information to call police.”
