Television character Peppa Pig saved the day after making an appearance at a St Neots playgroup’s summer fair – despite the original costume being detained in customs.
About 150 people were at Priory Park Playgroup in Almond Road on Saturday (June 28), where they met Peppa and enjoyed games, face painting, a bouncy castle, tombola and more.
However, without the help of Folksworth Pre-school, which lent the group a costume after The Hunts Post launched an appeal to find a replacement Peppa, the star attraction may not have been there.
Kelly Holmes, 35, fundraising manager at Priory Park Playgroup, had ordered an outfit from eBay, but customs officers detained it after finding that it infringed intellectual property rights.
Mrs Holmes said: “It was a brilliant day, we had a big turnout and the kids all really enjoyed seeing Peppa. It was a weight off my shoulders having her there on the day. A great big thank you to Folksworth Pre-school.”
Visitor numbers were up on previous years and this helped to raise about £900 – almost twice as much as the last summer fair – which will go towards toys.
