A new branch of St Neots Foodbank is to open this week, helping families who are living in poverty.

The distribution centre, at Eynesbury Methodist Church on Berkley Street, will start giving out food parcels to people in need from tomorrow (Thursday).

Christine Green, St Neots Foodbank trustee, said: “When we opened nearly a year ago there was always an intention to expand our number of distribution centres, but we didn’t want to run before we could walk. We are now in a position to do it.

“We know there is a great need in that part of the town and for a lot of families that use the service it is a long way to carry bags of heavy goods from the other centres.

“We are really pleased to say that we feel we have managed to help everyone who has come to us.

“We would just like to say a huge thank you to the people of this town for the massive generosity we have been shown.”

The Eynesbury facility will be the St Neots Food Bank’s third distribution centre – the others are located at the United Reformed Church in St Neots High Street and at St Mary’s Church, Eaton Socon. The group also has warehouse in Little End Road, Eaton Socon.

However, as the group grows more volunteers are needed – particularly anyone who can help with transporting goods. There is also the possibility that more distribution centres could be opened in the future.

The St Neots Foodbank opened in October last year.

INFORMATION: The centre at Eynesbury Methodist Church will open on Thursdays, 4pm-6pm. The URC Church in the High Street is open on Tuesdays and St Mary’s Church, Eaton Socon, on Fridays, both from 10am-12noon. There will be a collection at Tesco in Barford Road on July 4 and 5.
