After a few false starts, disabled passengers will soon be able to use the lifts at St Neots railway station without any time restrictions.
Currently the lifts are closed when the station is unmanned. But new equipment, linked to CCTV cameras by the footbridge, will allow passengers to call the camera control room from where the lifts can be opened remotely.
The system is expected to be operational by mid-April.
Roger Perkins, spokesman for First Capital Connect, said: “We’re delighted with the new footbridge which provides access for all our passengers and a valuable link for the community between Love’s Farm and the town. Now we will be able to help people gain access to our services around the clock.”
