A DEVOTED partner is to embark on a charity walk from Cambridge and St Ives for Diabetes UK in honour of his girlfriend who suffers with the illness.

Jamie Hewett admitted that seeing his partner Sarah Millard suffer with Type I Diabetes had “made him think that is isn’t being recognised enough”.

So he has organised to walk along the Guided Busway route from Cambridge on Saturday, November 17 to show how easy it is to raise money for a good cause.

Mr Hewett said he his eyes had been opened to the effects of the illness when Miss Millard, 25, of Thames Road, Huntingdon did not wake up on Tuesday, October 9 because of a low blood sugar level. She was eventually revived by a paramedic.

Last year the Hunts Post reported how Miss Millard’s daughter, who was then three, ran downstairs to retrieve energy tablets and feed them to her mother after she had collapsed on to her bed suffering with hypoglycemia, caused from low blood sugar levels.

“We don’t hear a great deal about diabetes, so a lot of people take it for granted,” she said. “I am so proud of him for doing the walk, it means a lot.”
