EAST of England MPs will await news today of whether they retain their ministerial posts in an expected reshuffle of government jobs.

The shake up is part of a wider attempt to re-launch the government after a summer of difficult economic news and will also see the prime minister try and reassert his authority over his own party.

Currently, Huntingdonshire’s two MPs both have ministerial jobs – Huntingdon MP Jonathan Djanogly is a justice minister while North West Cambridgeshire MP Shailesh Vara is a whip.

Mr Djanogly’s boss, justice secretary Ken Clarke, looks set to be moved or leave the cabinet altogether, along with environment secretary Caroline Spelman and party chairman Baroness Warsi.

Meanwhile most senior figures in government are expected to remain in their present posts; including chancellor George Osborne, foreign secretary William Hague, home secretary Theresa May and education secretary Michael Gove.

Employment minister Chris Grayling and housing minister Grant Shapps have been touted as possible candidates to take places in the cabinet.

Mr Cameron’s official spokesman refused to comment on the timing or content of the expected reshuffle yesterday.
