St Ives Charity Football Match for Zane Smith, with Huntingdon Rowdies U10s

A HUNTINGDON toddler who suffers from a rare brain disease received a major boost from one of the town’s football teams.

Zane Smith, 3, suffers from the little-known disease Cavernous Hemangioma which causes clusters of abnormal blood vessels to form in his brain.

The slightest knock can cause a haemorrhage which could be potentially fatal.

Huntingdon Town Rowdies youth football team decided to wear the name of charity, Cavernoma Alliance UK, on their kit to raise awareness of the condition.

Their first match was against St Ives Blue Sox two weeks ago and the team battled valiantly despite losing.

Zane’s father, Lee Smith, 28, of Essex Road, told The Hunts Post: “I think it’s amazing that the football team have put Zane’s charity on their shirts.

“Everyone’s so supportive and it will definitely help to bring the disease to people’s attention.”
