Zachery was diagnosed with cerebral palsy in June last year and his parents Samantha, 34, and Liam, 33, don’t know if he will ever be able to walk or sit unaided.

In November the family discovered the Hearts and Minds challenge to collect 185 phones to receive an iPad 2 with a Grace app, which helps children learn through pictures.

In little over a month, 185 people dropped off their old phones to collection boxes in The Old Sun, St Neots Town Football Club, and the Jaz Yorks pub.

Mrs Smith, of Andrew Road, Eynesbury, said: “We are really grateful to all the people who responded. The iPad is going to help him with his motor skills and help him develop.

“It’s amazing that we managed it so quickly and Zachery will get his iPad in the next few weeks to them.”
