A GODMANCHESTER woman, who created a false will after her partner died prematurely last year, was jailed for eight months.

Karen Phillips, 46, of Crowhill, forged the document, making herself the main beneficiary after Stephen Chambers died suddenly of heart failure at her home on January 23.

She was arrested and denied forging the will, however, after being bailed and realising her computer was to be examined she admitted the offence.

She admitted doing wrong but claimed she wanted security for herself and her children, which is what Mr Chambers would have wanted.

Phillips pleaded guilty to fraud by false representation in June and was jailed yesterday (January 19) for eight months at Huntingdon Crown Court.

DC Derek Cornhill, who investigated, said: “Phillips was upset when Mr Chambers died and believed she was carrying out his wishes, but forging a will is a criminal offence and her actions caused Mr Chambers’ family extra concern and anxiety during their grief.

“If Phillips has succeeded in the fraud it would have denied Mr Chambers’ immediate family of the inheritance due to them.”
