Opening of MUGA in Godmanchester, deputy mayor Sue Worthington and Holly from Huntingdon Hawks Basketball Club

GODMANCHESTER’S deputy mayor joined youngsters to shoot some hoops at the opening of the new multi-use games area (MUGA) in Godmanchester last week.

The £54,000 facility is the latest addition to Judith’s Field and is aimed at 12-17 year-olds. As well as basketball, the area will be available for five-a-side football, netball and cricket.

A play pathfinder, designed for eight to 13-year-olds was unveiled on the site last year, but facilities for older teenagers have been lacking since the closure of the town’s skate park in 2008. Funding for this latest project was provided by the developers behind housing projects at Roman Way, London Road and Hartford Road in Huntingdon.

Godmanchester town councillor Debbie Middleton said: “It is there for everybody to use. It is aimed at teenagers, but I imagine we will have parents taking their children there and a lot of adults will use it as well.”

Plans are also in place to either replace or refurbish the pavillion at Judith’s Field.
