COUNCILLORS have backed plans for a new housing development in Fenstanton.
Mr B Gray, whose son Alexander is a Tory Huntingdonshire district councillor, proposes to construct 25 homes on the former Ivy Nursery site, off Cambridge Road.
On Monday (August 19), the development management committee at Huntingdonshire District Council approved the plans, subject to a Section 106 agreement.
As part of the agreement, Mr Gray will be required to ensure that the development includes affordable housing and open space. He will also need to pay for the council to supply wheeled bins to the new homes.
Residents in nearby Pitfield Close objected to the proposal due to loss of privacy, the impact of extra traffic on the A14 and the village, and the potential increase in demand for school places.
Fenstanton Parish Council also recommended refusal due to concerns about drainage, parking and the type of housing that would be built on the site.
However, The Highways Agency raised no objection to the plans as improvements at Spittals and on the Cambridge northern bypass would mean that the A14 could cope with increased traffic volume.
