Cambs cops target motorists on mobile phones

A ROAD safety campaign is targeting motorists using a hand-held mobile phone while driving.
Cambridgeshire police has launched the crackdown during February and in the first week officers have handed out 74 fines.
Inspector Bob Turner said: “Over the coming weeks officers will be carrying out regular patrols targeting those flouting the law in relation to mobile phones when driving.
“It only takes a few seconds distraction from a mobile to cause a collision, which can have fatal consequences.
“Roads can be a dangerous place when the law is not respected and adhered to. If we are to reduce the number of fatalities and casualties on the county’s roads it is vital people comply with the law.”
Last year 2,535 drivers were issued with a £60 fixed penalty notice and three points on their licence for driving while using a mobile phone or device.
