THEY say the course of true love never runs smooth but that’s certainly not the case for Sam and Beryl Woods.

Sixty-five years after tying the knot in 1947 the Brampton couple celebrated their marital milestone with a celebration at the Brampton Memorial Day Centre on September 18.

Mrs Woods, 89, told The Hunts Post that the pair met while based at Aldershot in the army in 1945 and it was love at first sight.

Now a helper at the day centre, Mrs Woods said: “We received a beautiful orchid from all the people at here and so many good wishes and we loved them all.

“I don’t know what I’d do without the centre, they’re all lovely people here.”

According to the couple, who have one son and two grandchildren, the secret of a long and happy marriage is simple: “Being able to compromise,” Mrs Woods added.

“Everybody says it’s give and take and that true – just being able to compromise and that’s it.”
