An inquest into the death of zoo keeper Rosa King has been opened and adjourned.

Lawrence Court, Huntingdon, Lawrence Court, Huntingdon,

The hearing took place at Lawrence Court, in Huntingdon, this morning (Wednesday), with senior coroner for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, David Heming, recording the 33-year-old’s cause of death as ‘traumatic injuries’.

Ms King died on May 29 at Hamerton Zoo after a tiger entered the enclosure in which she was working.

A joint investigation into the incident, being conducted by Cambridgeshire police and Huntingdonshire District Council, is ongoing.

Mr Heming said: “There is an ongoing investigation as to the circumstances as to how the tiger came into direct contact with Rosa. These investigations will take some time to complete. Given this is a work place incident, this will necessitate a jury inquest.”

Mr Heming confirmed that a post mortem examination was conducted by Dr Martin Goddard.

The hearing was adjourned and is scheduled to re-open again on November 23 for a pre-inquest review.

Ms King, from Hamerton, was described by her parents, Andrea and Peter King, as a “dedicated professional”.

Hamerton Zoo confirmed earlier this week that the tiger involved in the incident would not be put down.
