A Huntingdon graphic designer has joined the herd with his creation of a life-size – dare devil – baby elephant.

Richard Powell, 65, of Garner Close, Brampton, was asked to paint the RAF Red Arrows-themed animal as part of the Elephant Parade’s national tour, which is raising awareness of conservation issues.

Richard’s elephant is currently on display as part of the 35-strong herd in Uxbridge, London.

After receiving a sketch from an eight-year-old girl who wanted to see the Red Arrows aerobatic display team immortalised in elephant form, the charity asked Mr Powell if he could help make her dreams a reality.

He was faced with a blank canvas – a white plastic resin baby elephant – and took just over a month to complete the work.

“It is a very worthwhile
charity and I always do things to try to help people,” he said. “I have found that with what I do I can help people in a better way than putting a quid in a tin somewhere.”

The elephants are available to buy until July 26. Proceeds will be donated to The Asian Elephant Foundation (TAEF).
