Godmanchester Co-Op to reopen on Thursday after £424,000 revamp

14:10 11 March 2014

The Co-operative Food Store in Godmanchester is undergoing a £424,000 transformation.

The shop in Cambridge Road is currently closed while work takes place, including expanding the in-store bakery.

Staff at the store are receiving additional training to enable them to provide help and advice to customers with meal ideas.

The store will reopen on Thursday, March 13, and staff have chosen local resident Maria George to have star status for the day.

Maria will cut the ribbon at the official opening and is being recognised for her tireless efforts working for the community over many years: running a playgroup, volunteering in schools and helping out with youth groups and a luncheon club for elderly people.

She will receive a hamper packed with products from the new store, as well as vouchers to spend inside.

Store manager Lucy Crane said: “I’m excited about welcoming customers into the new Godmanchester store.

“As a co-operative, our staff and members play an active role in the areas in which we trade and the new store will embrace Godmanchester’s fantastic community spirit. Customers will be able to find out what is going on locally, list their own events on a new calendar board and find out more about how The Co-operative’s Community Fund can benefit local groups.”
