A man who was caught with cannabis worth up to £35,000 in his home has been jailed for nine months.

Officers discovered 41 plants in two tents in a bedroom at Ronald Naidoo’s home in Wootton Field, Gamlingay, after carrying out a warrant on September 26 last year.

Naidoo, 29, was on holiday at the time but a man who was at the property and said he was house-sitting was arrested.

However, Naidoo and his wife arrived home while officers were still at the property and both were arrested.

Analysis of the cannabis determined the plants had a potential value of between £11,480 and £34,850.

Naidoo admitted producing a class B drug and was jailed for nine months at Cambridge Crown Court on Friday (January 31). The man who was arrested first was cautioned while Naidoo’s wife was released with no further action taken.

Pc Andy Bates said: “Producing cannabis is a serious offence, particularly in this quantity, and the jail term reflects that.

“Cannabis production also has links to other types of crime and anti-social behaviour and we will continue to target those involved in it.”
