Former St Ivo School student Jonnie Peacock will become the first disabled contestant on Strictly Come Dancing.

The Paralympian, who won gold in the T44 100m at London 2012, announced yesterday (Monday) that he will be taking part in the BBC show.

Jonnie said: “The opportunity to be the first contestant with a disability to take part in Strictly’s main show was too good to turn down.

“I’ve got no previous dance history outside of the occasional ‘worm’ at a mate’s party and I know this will be a challenge and a new experience. I can’t wait to see what I can achieve and how far I can push myself.”

He will join the likes of Debbie McGee, X Factor winner Alexandra Burke, the Reverend Richard Coles, and Peterborough born and bred ex-JLS star Aston Merrygold.

Jonnie was born in Cambridge and bought up in Shepreth, but lived in St Ives while he attended St Ivo, training on the athletics track at the St Ivo Outdoor centre.

It is expected that Strictly Come Dancing will return at the end of September.
