Two friends who have both battled breast cancer have raised thousands of pounds for organisations which helped them during and after treatment.

Raylene Armstrong and Denise McNichol, of Snowy Way, Hartford, organised a tea party to help give something back to the Macmillan Woodlands Centre and the Hunts Community Cancer Network.

“At the end of my treatment, once I started to feel a little bit better, I wanted to do something to be able to give back to those who had helped me,” Mrs Armstrong said.

Sponsored by estate agent Peter Lane, and supported by friends, family and local businesses, the pair saw more than 200 people enjoy coffee and cake.

“The day was absolutely brilliant. It was fantastic and a very happy day with lots of friends, neighbours and family coming along,” added Mrs Armstrong.

The pair raised £2,013 which will be split between the two organisations.
